Ntombi Broadley

Independent Midwife

Specialty: General Nurse, Midwife and Community Health Nurse.

Following my training at Baragwanath Hospital, I began working at one of the Soweto clinics as a newly qualified, very young midwife. Once I overcame the initial nerves of managing a birth without the direct supervision of a registered midwife—realizing that I was now “The Registered Midwife”—my love for midwifery grew exponentially.
Since then, I have had the valuable opportunity to work in some of the largest and busiest maternity hospitals in the United Kingdom. Throughout my career, my focus has remained on providing family-centered, individualized care to women, supporting and facilitating births in various settings tailored to each woman’s personal choice and clinical risk level. This includes providing comprehensive antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care across diverse environments:
Home births and midwife-led birth centers for women with low-risk pregnancies.
Labor suites in consultant-led hospitals to safely support mothers with high-risk pregnancies.
A Passion for Family and Nurturing
I have witnessed incredible transformations in the delivery room. I have watched a first-time dad nervously holding his newborn baby, awkwardly unsure of what to say, only to later marvel at seeing him confidently interacting and comfortably doing skin-to-skin contact with his second child—all while holding his partner’s hand and sharing a gentle kiss as he embraces his growing family.
In my practice, I proudly support couples in LGBTI+ relationships, firmly believing that family is defined and determined entirely by you. Many mothers have told me that I remind them of their own moms because I view my role as more than just a midwife; I am a nurturer at heart. I would love nothing more than to be a part of your unique journey and provide the dedicated, motherly care that every laboring woman deserves.
Returning to South Africa
Upon my return to South Africa, I established my own private practice: Little Arrivals Midwifery Services. Through this practice, I have had the distinct honor of supporting numerous families, including assisting with the birth of up to 5 babies for some of the same families over the years.

My favourite quote:

"Trust your body to do this; you have got the strength you need and the best team on your side."

My go-to tip for expectant moms:

When packing your hospital bag, please include a packet of SOFTI 60 x 90 cm linen savers. You never truly know how big your baby’s "swimming pool" (amniotic fluid) will be!

You'll always see me with:

A bottle of sparkling water! You will always find it in my hand to keep me energized and well-hydrated while I am right by your side supporting you through your labor.

How I recharge:

To unwind and recharge, I enjoy going for walks, gardening, tackling DIY projects, and crocheting. I also love the comforting smell of a cake baking in the oven, so spending time baking is another favorite pastime of mine.
