A water birth harnesses the natural buoyancy and warmth of water to reduce pain, promote relaxation, and facilitate a smoother, more gentle birthing experience for both mother and baby. Our rooms feature a dedicated birthing tub for a water birth option.

Holistic Birth Support

The midwife's role is to stand 'with woman,' providing comprehensive preparation and support for her physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. During this significant time, your midwife will offer a blend of nurturing presence, confident reassurance, and clinically sound, evidence-based care. Recognising that this is deeply personal, her aim is to respectfully support you, your family, and your new baby.

Your Birth Companions

We encourage the active participation of your partner, doula, or any loved one you choose to include in your birthing journey.

Comfort + Choice in Labour

We prioritise your comfort with freedom to move, eat, drink, and access to a variety of supportive birth tools like birth stools and birth balls to aid your journey.

Highest Safety Standards

While we advocate for natural childbirth, your well-being remains our utmost concern. Should a complication emerge during labour, our clinic is equipped with a modern on-site theatre, ready for any necessary procedure. A dedicated team, including an OBGYN, Anaesthetist, and Paediatrician will be on immediate standby, with your Independent Midwife continuing her supportive role. Rest assured, we maintain all essential protocols and high-tech equipment to manage any medical emergency promptly and efficiently.

24/7 Nursing Care

Every mother giving birth at Genesis is supported by her Independent Midwife and experienced healthcare professionals. Whether you've had a natural birth, or if you need a Caesarean section, you'll receive personalised, 24/7 medical care by our staff midwives, ensuring your comfort and recovery.

During the birth and postnatally you also have full access to essential services, including:

  • Having emergency equipment and medications on-site and available
  • In accordance with national guidelines, we regularly check your vital signs and your baby's heart tones using a handheld Doppler, ensuring comfort and safety during labour.
  • We ensure two certified professionals are present for your baby's arrival, (your midwife and a staff nurse/midwife.)
  • Our staff is prepared to manage common obstetric needs, including the administration of medications to address postpartum hemorrhage, provision of IV hydration, and deployment of emergency resuscitation equipment for infants requiring support during their transition.

On-Site Theatre

Your well-being is our highest priority. If unforeseen complications arise during labour, our fully equipped on-site theatre is ready for a Caesarean section.

  • Expert Team: Your OBGYN, Anaesthetist, Paediatrician and medical team will be on standby. Your midwife will remain by your side in a supportive role.
  • Emergency Preparedness: We have all the proper procedures and equipment to deal with any medical emergency swiftly and effectively.

Please note: We do not perform elective caesareans. However, if you've had one previous caesarean, you may inquire about being a suitable VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean) candidate. An independent midwife must assess you for VBAC suitability.

Newborn Paediatric Care

Ensuring the well-being of your new arrival is paramount. It's standard practice for every newborn at Genesis to receive a thorough check-up from a Paediatrician before going home. This vital examination screens for specific conditions that may emerge shortly after birth, alongside any congenital considerations, ensuring your baby starts life on the healthiest possible footing. In instances where a Caesarean section is performed, a Paediatrician is always present to safeguard your baby's immediate care at the moment of delivery.

Neonatal Stabilisation Units

We understand that sometimes newborns need a little extra support. That's why we have dedicated neonatal stabilisation units.

  • Immediate Support: The Paediatricians have all the medical equipment and skills to support and stabilise a newborn if needed.
  • Low Transfer Rate: Our transfer rate to a NICU is low. This is a testament to our focus on low-risk pregnancies and the midwives know how to identify and refer any high-risk concerns to an OBGYN promptly.
  • NICU Transfers: A baby will only be transferred to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at another private hospital (not a state hospital) if the Paediatrician advises overnight observation and NICU care.
