Ester Naude

Independent Midwife

Specialty: Waterbirths, Twins, Breech babies and VBAC.

My journey into midwifery began during my university studies in 2010 in Nursing and Midwifery at Potchefstroom. It was there, as a student, that I witnessed my first vaginal birth—and something shifted. I was completely captivated by the power, vulnerability, and instinctive strength of that moment. From then on, I knew this work would become my life’s calling.

As I started working as a midwife in a Level 3 hospital attending to many complicated births, I couldn’t shake a growing conviction: women deserved better. I saw how birth was often managed rather than supported, and I became determined to be part of a gentler, more empowering way forward. I envisioned birth experiences where women felt safe, informed, and truly in control—where movement, instinct, and choice weren’t just allowed, but encouraged.

With over a decade in private midwifery practice and more than 500 births attended, my passion for physiological birth has only deepened. I believe birth is a natural process that unfolds best when undisturbed, supported by trust, and grounded in respectful, woman-centred care. My ethos is simple: I don’t direct the birth—I hold the space for it to unfold.

Much of my career has been dedicated to, supporting families in  calming environments—often in water, often in silence, always with reverence. I’ve also expanded my practice through work in the UK, gaining valuable experience in Obstetric-led units, Midwife-led Birth Centres, and home birth teams. These diverse settings have broadened my clinical skills while reinforcing my commitment to physiological birth as the gold standard where possible.

I’ve seen firsthand how building trust and continuity in pregnancy lays the foundation for a confident, empowered birthing experience. When a woman feels heard and supported throughout her journey, she is more likely to enter labour with strength, clarity, and self-trust.
